Every wondered what those loops are for on shopping trolleys?

Many of you may not have even noticed them, but it turns out they serve a very handy purpose and could make your weekly shop a heck of a lot easier.

We'll give you a clue - they're particularly useful for your trip back to the car once you've bagged up all your shopping.

Give up?

The loops are actually there for you to hang carrier bags from. Seems obvious now, right?

It's a great idea, as it stops bags containing softer items like bread, eggs, fruit and vegetables from getting squashed by the heavier goods.

The ingenious trick was brought to our attention by Twitter user @LifeHacks, who posted a snap of the metal loops being used in all their glory.

They captioned the picture: "Wait... is that what those loopy things are for? Now I feel stupid."

You're not alone.

And it turns out we're not the only ones that were shocked by the revelation.

In response to Life Hacks' tweet, @GDixon_ asked: "Do they really have a purpose?", while @MisterMaguu1 wrote: "Mind blown."

This eye-opener comes soon after we revealed what the hole in the centre of a spaghetti spoon is for.

As many of you will know all too well, judging the right amount of pasta you need for yourself or your family can be tricky.

The hole is there to help guide the person cooking on portion sizes as it measures one recommended serving.
