SUPERMARKET WARS

Morrisons ups the ante with 200-DAY return policy for parents buying school uniforms

Most offer 12-month guarantees but only if goods are faulty

SUPERMARKET chain Morrisons has fired the latest shot in the school uniform wars by offering a “no quibble” 200-day guarantee.

Rivals Aldi and Lidl have focused on price, recently unveiling basic uniforms for under £4. Asda is soon expected to enter the fray with a cut-price offering.

But Morrisons is highlighting the guarantee on its Nutmeg range, which it says beats any offered by competitors and is six times as long as some.

Most offer 12-month guarantees but only if the goods are faulty.

Morrisons bosses say they decided on their returns offer after a study revealed four in five parents need to replace school uniforms within the same year of purchase.

And it was found over two thirds of school uniforms are replaced within the first six months.

The biggest culprits for replacements are worn-out patches and loss of shape (54 per cent), rips and tears occurring at playtime (50 per cent) and ink stains (40 per cent).

The Nutmeg back-to-school range starts at £2. It is available in Morrisons stores from today.

How it compares...

Aldi: 60 days if you are unhappy, 12 months for faulty goods
Lidl: 30 days if you are unhappy, 12 months for faulty goods
Sainsbury's: 20 washes
Tesco: 30 days if you change your mind, 12 months if faulty
