There’s a bizarre but brilliant reason why these three mates just got matching tattoos

WHEN male pals have matching tattoos it usually has something to do with a drunken stag night.

But for best friends Garth, Andy and Mike the real reason behind their bonding artwork is an incredible story.

Garth, from Seattle, has revealed a fateful night in 2010 when he got a life-changing phone call from another friend.

Although he introduces the Twitter stream, posted this weekend, as a tale of the “best joke I’ve ever been part of” the beginning of the tale is far from funny.

He reveals: “My friend Scott, a strong and confident guy, spoke in a hushed & shaking voice. He said ‘I wanted to let you know Mike was stabbed in LA.’”

Mike had been out for a friend’s birthday when he tried to stop a man mugging one of their group.

In the struggle, he was stabbed.

After being rushed to hospital, it was found the blade had lacerated his kidney and section of his large intestine.

Both had to be removed in emergency surgery.

On hearing the news Garth and pal Andy, from Mexico City, flew to LA to be with their stricken friend.

The decided to get a special tribute to show him how much they loved him.

When Mike was well enough the two guys lifted their shirts to reveal their 'gift'.

Mike took a while to get the punchline.

Four years on Mike decided to join his pal in their cool "colon" gag.
