BingBong1234's story starts when he was eight and was out walking near a swamp with his mum and their dog.

The pair heard a strange two-toned whistling, which "terrified" the user's mum and made her demand they went home.

Fast forward two years, and while walking his dog the guy hears the exact same noise.

Petrified, he went home as quickly as he could.

Nothing happened for many years, until he was 24.

While on a camping trip with his girlfriend for US holiday Independence Day, the man once again heard the eerie sound.

He was by water when the creepy whistling began, and this time he caught it all on camera.

The low then high noise is spine-tingling enough, but what makes it worse is that it appears to be coming from a man in a canoe.

That would be normal - apart from the guy is a long way out on the river and there's no way the sound should be able to travel so far.

BingBong1234 has no answer to what's going on, revealing his mum can't remember the initial encounter with the creepy sound.

Reddit users are certainly spooked by it though, with many flocking to give him some insight.

Many admitted finding the sound scary and the video even more upsetting, but it was one user in particular who got people freaked.

"Dude! Read this, please, I s*** you not." Gaashura wrote.

"In my country (Venezuela) there is a legend about a guy called 'El Silbon' (The whistler). A sort of damned soul that warns people of their coming death.

"I'm not making this s*** up, I'll try to translate parts from the article for you to see if they fit what you experienced:

"He has a particular whistling similar to Music Notes CDEFGAB in that order, going up to F and then going low to B.

"It's said that when the whistling is heard closely there is no danger, because he is really far, but when the whistling sounds far he is really close.

"It's also said that the whistling announces the death of those who hear it."

This was enough to creep the readers out, with one called VisyalCreature summing up how most of them felt: "As I read this I was really waiting for an explanation at the end that would make sense but YOU STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THE F*** THIS IS AND IT CREEPS ME OUT ALL THE WAY TO NORWAY

"I need to know more. If anything more happens or whatnot I NEED TO KNOW."

LittleMim was equally as spooked, because they often hear unexplained whistling too.

"Ever since I was little I would randomly hear somebody whistling outside and if I was inside my house it would be so loud I would always go out trying to see who was doing it," they wrote.

"I've never seen anybody doing it.

"I watched your video and the whistle I always hear is the whistle, that high then low one.

"It always just repeats that.

"I hear it at different houses, I've heard it in different cities and states, and I still hear it now as an adult."

Others shared their own spooky experiences, such as a Redditor who experienced a bird flying into their home then straight back out.

They were told this meant they'd experience a death, and within two months they had.

Of course there were a few people who tried to lighten the mood too, with HeWhoKnox probably getting the biggest laugh which his comment: "Oh my god, I'm at a wrestling tournament reading this, and right around the canoe part, the loudest whistle blew, and I damn near s*** my pants."
