Many people will whack on their PJs before climbing into bed, but it might be time to change that habit because sleeping starkers comes with a number of benefits.

1. It's more hygienic for your privates

Wearing clothes in bed can encourage yeast and bacteria to grow and cause infections. By ditching your underwear you allow your body to breathe and keep clean.

2. It keeps your skin looking youthful

If your skin gets too hot it can disrupt the release of your anti-ageing hormones - melatonin and growth hormones.

Because your growth hormones are released when your body temperature is lower, it's better to sleep without clothes so you can cool off.

3. It can help you lose weight

Research has found that staying cool during the night can help increase your metabolism.

Also, if your body temperature is lower you'll end up having to burn more calories to try and keep yourself warm.

The National Sleep Foundation say the cooler you are the deeper a sleep you will have.

According to psychologists, skin on skin contact will increase the release of the love hormone oxytocin which helps you feel closer to your partner.

In addition to that, the hormone also helps alleviate stress and depression, so get close and personal with your partners.

It is one of the only times you can be truly naked without feeling self-conscious and can help you become more comfortable with you body.
