Woman gets a tattoo in memory of slain gorilla Harambe after losing a Twitter bet

ONE woman was left with a permanent tribute to Harambe the gorilla after she lost a Twitter bet - and was forced to get an inking of the slain primate as a result.

Harambe the gorilla rose to international prominence when he was shot dead at Cincinnati Zoo earlier this year.

However, internet trolls recently turned the slain silverback into a viral meme, and a series of jokes about the tragic gorilla have been sweeping the web - months after his death.

And jokers have even been pledging their allegiance to Harambe in the most extreme way imaginable... by getting inkings commemorating their meme hero.

One such Twitter user, @djlauralux, ended up with a permanent tribute after a bet with her followers backfired, promising to get a Harambe tattoo if she got 2,000 retweets.

But, after getting over 2,800 retweets, Laura duly followed through with her promise, and ended up with this shocking inking on her leg to show for it.

Featuring a heart clutched in a hairy gorilla hand, the tattoo reads: "Rip Harambe in our hearts."

The proud owner of this unusual inking wrote: "He lived in Cincinnati Zoo, now he lives in our hearts #RIPHarambe."

Other Twitter users reacted with delight to the heartfelt tribute, joking that Harambe must be "smiling down" upon the girl.

Another wrote: "You seriously did it. I don't even know what to think about this."

Astoundingly, this inked-up ape enthusiast isn't the only person to rock a permanent tribute to the much-loved silverback.

A trend for Harambe tattoos has seen a number of jokers follow suit and get similar inkings, with some truly shocking works of body art on display amongst Harambe fans.

One features the 17-year-old gorilla in the crosshairs of a scoped rifle, with the caption "1 shot 1 kill" below the iconic ape.

Another dedicated fan boasts a permanent depiction of Harambe, alongside the bizarre phrase: "Not to hurt the boy."

And a further Harambe fan took to Twitter to flaunt their friend's inking, a shot of the gorilla with a heavenly aura behind him.

But, much like these other dedicated fans, Laura has no regrets about her unconventional tattoo.

She told Buzzfeed: ""I had been posting Harambe memes non stop and my friend dared me to get a tattoo of him, so I said if I got 2,000 retweets, I would.

"It's so funny to me that people even make a big deal out of this kind of thing."
