Olympic medalists Laura Trott and Jason Kenny chat about wedding plans and Rio on BBC Breakfast
Team GB's cycling lovebirds reveal Laura was more nervous than Jason over his two false starts
OLYMPIC cyclist Laura Trott has revealed she was more nervous during fiancé Jason Kenny’s nail-biting false starts than he was.
The gold medallist couple appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning to talk about the Rio Games and their future wedding plans.
And Laura said Jason’s keirin race – where a motorbike controls the pace for the first few laps – had her on the edge of her seat after it was restarted twice because of cyclists pulling away too quickly.
Jason revealed he was calm throughout the restarts but added: “Laura worries enough for both of us.”
Laura teased: “If he was any more laid back, he’d be lying down. Honestly.”
Asked if that drives her mad, she admitted: “A little bit yes, because I’m so nervous.”
The couple, who live together in Cheshire, also revealed that they haven’t set a date for the wedding.
Laura said: “We’ve been engaged for ages so I’m like ‘come on, let’s do it now’.
“But the thing is, I think people forget that Rio to us is huge and with both of us going, we wanted to get one hurdle out of the way first.
“We want to enjoy the process of planning a wedding.”
But she revealed they were relieved to be back home with their two dogs, Sprolo and Pringle, and living a “normal” life.
Laura said: “It was great over there but we were away for quite a long period of time, so now we’re back with the dogs which is great.”
Jason, 28, added: “We’re really lucky, we have a nice life, we live in a nice area so as special as the Olympics is, we’ve been away for two months now and it’s nice to come home and be normal for a little bit.”

He also praised the reception the couple have received on their triumphant return.
He said: “It’s kind of sinking in. When we go out for dinner people are coming up and saying ‘well done’ and buying us drinks.
“I don’t think we’ve bought a single drink since we got home.”
Essex girl Laura, 24, compared the experience of the Rio Olympics to being in the Big Brother House.
She said: “London was my first Olympics and I didn’t know if I could top it because it all went to plan.
“Rio was different because it was an away games. In London it was all over the TV and you could understand the TV, it felt like everybody was very much focusing on the Olympics.
“Out in Rio it felt like you were in the Big Brother House, like everybody’s looking in but you’re not looking out and you’re away from the public and it’s not until you come home you realise everybody really does care.”
The sporting superstars now share a total of 52 medals, including TEN Olympic golds, but say their mums insist on looking after them.
Laura laughed: “They don’t trust us. We’re old enough to look after them but they won’t let us.”
In a separate interview, with Hello! magazine Laura revealed that the couple planned to take a month long honeymoon – in a camper van.
She said: “We are going on the world’s longest honeymoon. I want to go for a good month.
“We’re thinking of getting a camper van and just driving around because we’ve got our dogs and I wouldn’t want to leave them again. We could go on a little tour.”
