Jaw-dropping MTV Video Music Award fashion moments from pop’s biggest divas

THE MTV Video Music Awards honours the industry’s biggest and brightest talent.

And when it comes to the red carpet, pop divas battle it out to hog the fashion spotlight.

From a dress made out of steak to a knickers fashioned out of a chandelier, it seems there’s nothing the attention-grabbing A-list aren’t afraid to step out in.

Before this year’s star-studded bash kicks off on Sunday, we look back at Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga’s most shocking looks - and see how their style has evolved over the years.

BRITNEY SPEARS

Britney stunned fans in 2001 when she stepped out in a see-through lace dress that flashed both her bra and granny pants.

Things got even more X-rated the year after when the mum-of-two donned a leather cap, cleavage-exposing frock and strappy knee-high heels.

The 34-year-old looked angelic at 2003's ceremony in a white corset dress but later caused outrage after snogging Madonna on stage.

Britters had a bit of a break from the VMAs, and then popped up in 2011 in a demure embellished black dress and patent ankle boots.

She was back to her raunchy best last year in an eye-wateringly short gold sequin dress that left little to the imagination.

LADY GAGA

Lady Gaga just doesn't do understated.

The 30-year-old singer rocked up to 2009's ceremony in an eccentric feathered top, see-through lace maxi skirt and a bizarre black top hat.

The Let's Dance hit maker stepped out in dress made of meat in 2010, accessorising the eye-popping look with steak shoes.

She decided to take masculine tailoring to another level in 2011 by donning a baggy suit, and she stormed the red carpet in 2013 in a leather floor-skimming gown.

KATY PERRY

She's adored for her wacky wardrobe and Katy Perry uses the MTV VMAs to showcase her outlandish get-ups.

The pop princess stepped out in 2007 in a star-adorned bustier and silk hotpants, while in 2010 she rocked a lace bodysuit complete with white frill skirt.

The 31-year-old dyed her famous brunette locks a girly shade of pink in 2011, and dazzled in a mint dress complete with daring cutaways.

Katy showcased her wild side in 2013 in a leopard print dress complete with a thigh-high split.

The Roar songstress jumped on the double denim craze in 2012 in a corset and super-long skirt.

MILEY CYRUS

Miley Cyrus has transformed from a sweet child star into a flesh-flashing diva on the MTV VMAs red carpet.

The 23-year-old looked demure in a sequin navy mini-dress in 2008, and kept everything underwraps in a patterned maxi dress in 2011.

The pop icon sported a bright blonde quiff in 2012 and wowed in a low-cut, figure-hugging back dress.

Miley really started experimenting with fashion in 2013. She turned heads in a heavily-embellished pair of black jeans and matching crop, also styling her hair into horns.

Last year she left little to the imagination in a pair of silver belts that she had fashioned in a bra, a pair of chandelier knickers and thigh-high metallic boots.
