A MUST-have bag for fashion fans is selling for almost £1,000 despite looking like a £1 carrier from a launderette.
The £975 Bazar leather tote by Spanish designer Balenciaga has stripes similar to cheap vinyl washing bags.
It will soon be seen swinging from the arms of the rich and famous as it has caused a stir among fashionistas after it went on sale earlier this month.
Turning the boringly ordinary into high style is not new - everyday products have been given a designer make-over for years.
The humble plastic supermarket bag became a must-have when re-imagined for designer Jil Sander in 2010 and sold for £90 - despite looking the image of the humble Sainsbury’s carrier.
British designer Anya Hindmarch currently has a bag modelled on a red crisp packet for the eye-watering price of £1195, and high end fashion house Moschino are flogging a backpack masquerading as washing powder for £275.
The designer has also sold out of its bizarre teddy-bear backpack, which sold for a staggering £1056.
