Lidl beats Aldi on value for Bank Holiday BBQ essentials… as you can feed the family for just £1.48 per head
WITH the weather expected to be a scorcher this Bank Holiday weekend, there’s never been a better time to get the family round and crack out the barbecue.
But being the host needn’t cost a fortune.
Lidl has been named the best value supermarket for bangers and burgers, making it possible to feed eight guests for just £11.83.
The price-friendly German retailer came out top in a recent survey by Good Housekeeping, beating rival Aldi by £1.20.
Lidl’s barbecue essentials include seven burgers, eight burger buns, one vegetarian burger, seven sausages, eight hot dog rolls, one vegetarian sausage, a packet of coleslaw and a tub of potato salad.
For just £1.48 per head, the basket also includes drinks - a bottle of lemonade and a bottle of cola – as well as condiments - a bottle of BBQ sauce, a bottle of mayonnaise and a bottle of ketchup.

The Lidl basket came in at half the price of like for like products at Marks & Spencer, which totalled £24.63.
Georgina Hall, Head of Communications at Lidl said, "We pride ourselves on offering fantastic quality products at the lowest possible prices.
"It’s no ‘Lidl Surprise’ therefore, that we came out as the best value supermarket in this Good Housekeeping price comparison.”
She added: “We just hope that the British public get a few more sunny days in for a BBQ, before our typical English summer is over."
