The royal and the pop star formed a close friendship in the years prior to her tragic death on August 31, 1997.
Paying homage to his pal at Diana’s Westminster Abbey memorial, Elton altered the lyrics to his hit tune – originally written about Marilyn Monroe – specifically for the service.
This Wednesday marks 19 years since the people’s princess lost her life in a Paris car crash, alongside companion Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul.
