Choosing food low in fat still top of the list for health conscious Brits… despite Gov’s sugar war

Fresh food came in at number two with low salt and high fibre next in line

FAT remains the biggest diet worry for people despite the Government’s drive against sugar.

Six out of ten of those quizzed felt healthy eating meant choosing foods that are low in fat.

Just four in ten prioritised low or no sugar, making it No 7 on the list of priorities.

Fresh food was No 2 after low fat, followed by low salt then high fibre.

The poll of 1,000 Brits by PwC is not good news for the Government. It is devoting its obesity strategy to sugar reduction.

But the survey did show millennials are the most health conscious and healthy eating is moving up Brits’ agendas.

The Grocer mag said the PwC findings contrast with a survey by analysts Mintel which claimed sugar was now Brits’ biggest dietary concern.

The Government recommends a diet with no more than 35 per cent fat. This may change with the results of a major survey into its effects.
