A devastated mum is trying to raise £5k for a headstone for her triplets
Kirsty Hawkins, 29, lost all three of her babies after complications in her pregnancy
A HEARTBROKEN mum is trying to raise the £5,000 needed for a headstone for her dead babies.
Kirsty Hawkins, 29, was overjoyed when she found out she was pregnant and set to give birth to a set of triplets.
However, after suffering a number of complications, two of her babies died in her womb - and the other only survived for five hours after birth.
Now the devastated mum has vowed to keep their memory alive by trying to raise the £5,000 for a headstone.
Kirsty, who lives in Barry, told : “My world stopped, I knew two of the babies had died before I gave birth to them, but I hoped and prayed every night that the other would be okay.”
Kelly became pregnant back in October 2015, but within weeks she began having terrible stomach cramps as well as bleeding.
“By three months of pregnancy I looked and felt like nine months,” she added.
On New Year’s Eve she noticed something was wrong, she started to bleed and decided to keep her legs elevated so that she didn’t worry her mum.
Doctors discovered a tear in the gestational sac which was affecting two of the babies who were classed as ‘identical’.
After several trips to hospital, Kirsty found out her first child had tragically died at just 18 weeks and three days, with her second baby following exactly a week later.
“My main focus was making sure my other baby was born alive,” Kirsty said.
On March 6, which was also Mother’s Day, Kirsty prematurely gave birth to a son. But sadly he was only able to survive for five hours.

Kirsty said: “I couldn’t remove my eyes from him. He was tiny, just a beautiful and a wonderful baby.
“I was given a memory box, which was a real comfort, but it only had one of everything in it.
“I felt like there should have been three.”
Kirsty, who named her three sons Kadey-Lee, Jason Steven and Billie Jack, is now campaigning for help in raising £5,000 for a headstone for her babies - which will be placed in Barry Cemetery.
So far, she has raised around half of this sum, partly thanks to a fundraising event held at Barry rugby club.
The event included an auction, a free buffet, as well as three raffles.
Kirsty, who has three other children and has all of her kids' names tattooed onto her back, says that’s he stayed strong for their sake.
Her 13-year-old daughter Tayla also sang at the fundraising event - raising an impressive £571.
Kirsty now hope to raise the rest of the funds and has said that any additional money raised will go towards the charity 4louis - which provides families who go through stillbirth or neonatal death with memory boxes to remember their precious babies by.
