Sex-crazed spiders the size of mice have been lying in wait all year… and are now ready to invade British homes
BRITISH homes are set to be invaded by hordes of randy spiders - and some of the sex-crazed critters are likely to be as big as mice.
Every September, our homes seem to fill up with huge house spiders, although the reason why they suddenly emerge at this time of year is stranger than you might think.
The critters, which can grow up to 12cm long, have probably been lurking in your home all year, but only come out from their hiding places at the end of summer.
And spider experts say that the creatures choose this time of year to emerge because it's when they're ready to mate.
Steve McGrail, from Pro-Kill Environmental, said that male spiders are normally reclusive, but tend to be driven out into the open by their desire to get their legs over.
"They are actually there in the home at other times of year but they are hidden away - under the floor, in the attic, in the basement. If you find them, it’s pretty much impossible to rid your house of them.
“They may disappear for a period of time, but other spiders will come in their place. The best thing to do if you find them is put them in a shed - it’s a case of out of sight, out of mind . If you put them outside they are likely to die.”
This year's September spider infestation has already begun for plenty of Brits, with alarmed arachnophobes reporting that some of the horny critters are particularly large.
Tom Ivinson, 20, said: "Moving to my new flat has been like being forced to do a cameo performance on Eight Legged Freaks."
If you find them, it’s pretty much impossible to rid your house of them.

And mum-of-three Carol Rogerson, 54, added: "I have seen so many massive spiders already and we are not in autumn yet.
"It's really scary. They seem bigger this year than any other year and I've heard so many bad things about them."
Even more people took to Twitter to share their horror encounters, with one joking that they had trapped a house spider so big that its eyes went red in a flash photo.
Recently, arachnophobes have had plenty to be concerned about, after the Sun reported that a deadly breed of spider which gives its bite victims painful erections may have made its way to the UK.
However, the inhabitants of one village have found a novel way to deal with spider infestations - by eating the eight-legged critters.
