‘Eamonn, you go see them grandchildren you cute little ledge!’ Emotional viewers praise wonder grandad on The Chase after his team bags £75,000
THE contestant wanted to win enough money so he and his wife could travel to Australia to visit their grandchildren - and he nailed it
A GRANDAD was dubbed a "wizard" on last night's episode of The Chase after his team stormed to victory, taking home a whopping £75,000.
Irish contestant Eamonn was responsible for the sizeable money pot, gambling on a higher offer in his face-off with the Chaser and winning £68,000.
Early on in the show he told host Bradley Walsh he was retired but works as a professional storyteller.
He said: "It's just wonderful. I tell a lot of stories that are Irish mythology but I also tell stories from different societies, different times from around the world."
Walsh replied: "What a lovely thing to be able to do."
Eamonn explained he wanted to win enough cash so he and his wife Pauline could travel to Australia to visit their grandchildren.
He said: "We don't get to see them enough.
"One lives in Chicago and three live in Australia so I would use the money to try to get out to see them."
Viewers praised Eamonn for his incredible knowledge and lightning-speed answers.
He then gambled his £5,000 and took a higher offer of £68,000 - and nailed it.
Walsh quipped: "Do you know what every story has? A sting in the tail. Well played Eamonn, tremendous."
When the team beat 'Vixen' Jenny Ryan in the final chase, fans erupted on social media, delighted Eamonn and his wife would get to see their grandkids.
One viewer tweeted: "Never been so happy to see someone win 'The Chase' Eamonn you go see them Grandchildren you cute little ledge!"
Another wrote: "Casually screaming over #TheChase. Eamonn is legitimately a wizard" while one added: "Eamonn is a megastar!"
This was a much happier viewer reaction than on Monday evening's show, where people were outraged at contestant Ciaran for taking a minus offer of £15,000.
The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm.
