While it may seem like your sleep position is just a matter of being comfy, you may want to change your slumber patterns when it comes down to your health and beauty.
After all, if you are getting the average eight hours of kip per night and live to the age of 75, that’s a whopping 9125 days (or 25 years) of your life spent getting shut-eye.
And apparently, the way you fall asleep is not only important when it comes to the state of your back – but also the state of your skin.
According to Dr Hooman Melamed, an orthopaedic spine surgeon, most people will suffer from back problems during their lifetime.
He explained to that these problems made worse by how we sleep.
So, what is the best position?

In this position, Dr Melamed says: “You are in the best position, as your spine stays in natural alignment all night long.
"The position allows the spine, head, and neck to maintain neutral positions, and the back isn't forced to carry any extra pressure or weight."
But sleeping on your back isn’t just good for your spine – it could keep you looking young too.
In addition to using various anti-aging balms and creams, it seems that sleeping on our backs can also help our skin in the war against wrinkles.
Dermatologist Jaime Davis told Minnesota : "If you fold a piece of paper enough times, you get an etched crease there.
"As far as wrinkles are concerned, you're probably best to sleeping flat on your back."
