From chiselled cheeks, to embellished hair: Get Autumn/Winter beauty ready with this season’s trends
We show you how you can recreate all the coolest looks
THE only good things about summer departing are the autumnal new beauty trends we can finally try out.
With some stunning new looks being spotted on the A/W runways, we're spoilt for choice.
Here, we give you the low down on how to recreate them...
Vinyl Vixen
Created with pained precision, super-glossy, vinyl black and berry red lips were seen at both the Gareth Pugh and Dior shows.
“To get the look at home, outline the lip with heavy-duty concealer and blend outwards to create a flawless edge,” says make-up artist Celia Burton.
“Then line lips before following with lipstick. For added staying power, blot and repeat three times. Finish with a slick of gloss to emulate the plastic-wrap finish.”
Hairberdashery
Intricate hair embellishments stole the show at Alexander McQueen and Erdem as tassels, ribbons and jewels were placed haphazardly into hair, giving a Miss Havisham feel.
To recreate the look, glue or tie beads or ribbons to existing bun pins and add them into your messy updo.
The end result should have a DIY, eclectic feel to it.
Super-Real Skin
Heavily contoured, chiselled finishes are out, and au naturel looks are in – as seen at Missoni, Michael Kors and Alexis Mabille.
To create the look, buff cream blusher around the cheekbones to give a softer, blurred finish.
Go easy on the highlighter to stop it looking too polished.
Statement Nails
Nails varied from the extreme – where the whole finger and nail were spray-painted for Vivienne Westwood – to the subtle at Jenny Packham, where gold stars were placed over a clear base.
Elsewhere, negative space nails – where black cuticle lines, crescent moons and tips decorate otherwise nude nails – were seen at Giamba and Adam Selman.
Techno Rainbow Eyes
Glitter, metallics, saturated hues and embellishment around the eyes has carried through from summer, yet this season it’s much more controlled.
Flashes of pink, red, gold and silver with a pared-back base were seen at Emanuel Ungaro and Charlotte Olympia.
Keep designs minimal and use eye primer and glitter glue to stick pigment and glitter in place.
Ditch the mascara, as lashes are taking a back seat.
Engineered Eyes
Seen at Kenzo and Pucci, black eyeliner was back in a big way, only this time “razor-sharp” and “micro-thin” was the mantra backstage, and punk was the main source of inspiration.
You’ll need multiple liners for this look – at Kenzo make-up artists used a gel liner, topped with a liquid one and a silver glitter liner on the inner corners to ensure eyes looked futuristic.
Pastel Pops
The likes of Fendi and Jeremy Scott ditched autumnal berry shades and opted for lips and eyes that were decorated with flashes of pastel blue, mint green, candy pink and sunny orange.

The Anti-Brow
The era of big brows is officially over.
From Givenchy to Marc Jacobs, brows were muted.
Think bleached and light shades and reduced brows, where only half of the shape can be seen.
Recreate the look by going two shades lighter than your natural brow.
Extreme Side Parting
The side partings at Stella McCartney, Max Mara and Dior were severe with
a masculine edge.
Serious prep is needed to create this look.
“Lift damp roots with a volumising mousse before adding a volumiser through the ends for full-bodied movement,” says Aaron Carlo, Tresemmé UK hair ambassador.
“Blow-dry until it’s 50% dry and with a comb create a deep side parting. Smooth hair down for added drama.”
