After Cadbury’s hire a new hunky Milk Tray Man we take a look at some of the most cringe-worthy audition tapes from the 20,000 hopefuls

LAST year, Cadbury’s launched an appeal to find a hunk to become the star of their new chocolate campaign.

The iconic Milk Tray Man is known for being suave and smooth, but it’s safe to say he won’t be worried about losing his title to any of these blundering auditionees.

After posting their cringe-worthy applications online, these lads definitely failed to hit the mark.

From dropping the box of chocolates to accidentally applying for the role of Milky Bar kid, here are seven of the most bizarre entries…

1. Mark Whittington-Buckley

When trying to win someone over, it’s probably not advisable to joke that you like to break into random people’s homes.

Bald Mark confidently announces that “hair is overrated”, but still offers to wear a wig if he lands the role.

For his toe-curling finale, he uses some dodgy camera editing to disappear from his room, before speeding off in a car into the distance.

2. Doug Spence

Apparently this candidate knows exactly what the Milk Tray man is missing… and that’s a big bushy beard.

Doug ‘The Beard’ Spence put forward an awkward athletic video as he tried to win the hearts of the Cadbury’s producers.

He closes the video with the message: “Choose me! I have a huge beard! Beards are cool.”

3. Vinny

Cadbury’s hopeful Vinny seems tired of all the dramatic Milk Tray adverts, so he’s suggested something a bit less exciting.

Donning a fetching safety jacket, he cycles home to deliver his mum the chocolates straight out of a plastic bag.

Cue more dodgy camera editing in the closing scene, as Vinny ruins it all by faking a stunt in spectacularly dorky fashion.

4. Garry Bedford

Apparently, Garry is an actor.

This suggests that he would be perfect for the on-screen role, but sadly his impressions have failed to deliver.

Throughout the video, he hopes to demonstrate his diverse acting ability, attempting impressions of superhero characters including the Joker and the Hulk.

The most traumatic part of the application is when Garry steps out with a box of Milk Tray in nothing but a tiny thong.

5. Robert Dyer

Robert Dyer was definitely more of a geek than chic when it came to his advert audition.

After looking like he was going to nervously trip up a flight of stairs, he emphasised how “courageous” he was.

Just like the other hopefuls who tried out stunts in their applications, he couldn’t quite nail it with James Bond precision.

We must admit though, the outtakes were pretty adorable.

6. Ronnie Glazebrook

There’s no doubt that Ronnie’s video is one of the most entertaining ever.

After announcing that he wanted to be the “Milky Bar Kid”, the bungling auditionee began demonstrating some of his talents, including running and climbing up trees.

The fearless hopeful is even adamant that “he’s not scared of sharks either”.

7. Hassney

In a bizarre music video-style clip, Hassney attempts to use his quirky personality to his advantage.

We’re not quite sure the Milk Tray man would wear a tracksuit or crawl around in the mud, but the wannabe actor certainly gave it his all.
