ASOS launch Princess Diana-inspired collection… with prices starting at £8 for pearl earrings
The online retailer's preppy range is based on the late royal's most iconic looks
ASOS has launched a right royal new clothing collection inspired by Princess Diana’s most iconic looks.
The online retailer focused on the late Princess of Wales’ “downtown” off-duty wardrobe with the range featuring preppy jackets, oversized shirts, tartan and chunky cable knits.
The 20-piece capsule line, which is priced from £8 for a pair of faux pearl-encrusted hoop earrings to £155 for a pinstripe suit, was created by Sharmadean Reid MBE, founder of WAH Nails, alongside the brand’s in-house design team.
The covetable line features unmistakably Sloaney garments that Diana herself would be proud of.
A standout piece is a hot pink Nineties-inspired mini dress that features a square neckline and silver buckle straps.
Another statement outfit is a loose-fitting pinstripe blazer and matching flared trousers, which is reminiscent of an iconic two-piece suit Diana wore to a Centrepoint charity reception in London in 1996.
A collared halterneck dress calls to mind a double-breasted monochrome number the royal wore to a formal engagement in 1992.
An oversized Oxford shirt, a wool cap with a large black bow at the back and a cable knit cricket jumper are other key pieces.
Regal accessories include pearl chokers, a tartan phone case and a bracelet emblazoned with the word 'Prince'.
The ready-to-wear range, which is available to buy now, has been described as encapsulating “downtown realness” mixed with “uptown glam”.

Sharmadean told that the idea for the collection came from a back issue of the Wah Zine that preceded her nail salon.
She said: “One issue, we did a page called ‘When Di Was Fly’ and myself and Charlotte Roberts from The Mushpit had found all these images of Princess Diana in streetwear… she always loved bomber jackets, she actually dressed quite American preppy, she even wore Harvard jumpers.”
Sharmadean wanted to launch the collection after moving from east to west London with her kids when she felt like Lady Di on the school run.
ASOS design director Vanessa Spence commented: “Sharmadean is the ultimate female creative, we are of course excited to collaborate with her.
“With the majority of our collaborations we try and offer our customer something different from the brands usual product mix and this first clothing and accessory collection by Asos x Wah does just that.”
