WITH the news that Unilever products have been pulled from Tesco’s online shelves people are worrying that some of their favourite items are about to become very hard to get their hands on.

For some fans of the popular yeast-extract spread Marmite this news is too much to handle.

The hysteria has set in and some hopeful pranksters have even started listing their marmite pots of auction site eBay for up to .

But do we need to be playing the lottery with the hope of cashing in enough to buy a jar?

Tesco is still stocking non-Unilever product Vegemite, the Australian equivalent at a cost of £1.97 for a 220g pot as well as its own brand yeast extract for £1.75 for a 225g pot.

The other supermarkets also have their own version of the love it/hate it spread; a 225g portion serving of Sainsbury’s yeast extract costs £1.90, Morrison’s 240g pot is priced at £1.84 and Asda’s version comes in at £1.88 for 240g.

Marmite is one of 42 Unilever brands which is sold regularly in this country, including Flora, Ben & Jerry’s and Pot Noodle.

On Wednesday afternoon, the supermarket withdrew a large number of popular products from its website marking them as “out of stock” in response to Unilever’s steep price increases following the pounds post-Brexit plummet.
