Amanda Holden opens up for the first time about her sister’s horrific car crash
The columnist talks about her family's recent trauma exclusively in Fabulous
WHERE do I even begin describing the events of the last week.
One moment I was on a high, heading off to rehearsals for Stepping Out, the next I was racing to Plymouth to be at the hospital bedside of my younger sister Debbie, after she was in a very serious car accident.
It was one of those times where your life turns upside down in an instant.
Although Debbie was in a critical condition to begin with, I’m so happy and relieved to say she’s now on the road to making a full recovery.
The staff at Derriford Hospital, where she was treated, were incredible, and not for the first time in my life, I felt so grateful for our wonderful NHS.
When I got home to London I was desperate to spend some quality time with Chris and the girls after such a traumatic few days, so we decided to have a little sleepover in our camper van parked in our driveway – the girls’ idea, not mine, I can assure you!
We all snuggled up, along with the cat and dog, until around midnight when I had to bail because of Chris’ snoring.
I tried to sneak back into the house quietly, but woke everyone up hunting in my handbag in the dark for my keys. Oops!
By 1am we were all back indoors, tucked up in our beds.
It’s Halloween next week, so like mums up and down the country I’m planning Lexi and Hollie’s costumes for trick or treating.
I’m a bit competitive about dressing up and I watch YouTube videos on how to do really theatrical, spooky make-up for them.
I love Halloween and wish it were as big here as in the US, where they go really crazy for it.
Speaking of disguises, I’m in Bath at the moment on the first leg of the Stepping Out tour and we’ve all been putting our wigs to good use, wearing them out and about the city so no one recognises us.
If you see a gaggle of women with dodgy-looking hair enjoying a cheeky glass of wine, you’ll know it’s us!
