Royal Mail launches Mr Men stamp collection to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the books
The First Class stamps will cost 64p each and have been launched to celebrate the popular children’s books
STAMP collectors may be very happy, or even grumpy, as Royal Mail today announces it is issuing a special set of Mr Men and Little Miss stamps.
Mr Bump, Mr Tickle, Little Miss Sunshine, and of course Mr Happy and Mr Grumpy, feature on the 10 stamps - which mark the 45th anniversary of the books by Roger Hargreaves.
Each stamp is of First Class value - costing 64p per stamp or £6.40 for the full set.
The stamps will be on sale in Post Office branches and online via the Royal Mail website for 12 months.
However, if they prove popular then they could sell out and become very difficult to find, Philip Parker, the stamp strategy manager at Royal Mail said.
I feel incredibly proud and I think my father would have been equally proud and really chuffed.
Adam Hargreaves, son of Roger Hargreaves
He added: “The idea is that over time that the stamps become a little bit more collectable.
“We want to make sending stamps a bit more fun as well as celebrating one of the most successful children’s books of all time.”
Roger Hargreaves created the first book after his son Adam asked him what a tickle looked like, inspiring a copywriter to visualise a small orange man with long arms.
Since 1971, 50 Mr Men and 36 Little Miss books have been published - and Adam took over from his father following his death in 1988.
He said: "I feel incredibly proud and I think my father would have been equally proud and really chuffed.
"It's a real accolade for the Mr Men and Little Miss characters to be on a Royal Mail stamp."
Philip Parker, added: "The Mr Men and Little Miss characters are a worldwide phenomenon.
"People identify with the different character traits, and we hope these stamps will brighten up the sending and receiving of mail."
