When is Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes on BBC One at Christmas and who’s in the cast?
FANS OF children’s author Roald Dahl will be delighted to hear that the BBC have commissioned his witty interpretation of classic nursery rhymes “Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes” for a two-part Christmas special.
Adapted by Magic Light Producers, the producers behind The Gruffalo and Stick Man, the two half-hour instalments will feature five tales including Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Jack and the Beanstalk.
The series of shorts will be directed by Oscar nominees Jan Lachauer and Jakob Shchuh.
What is Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes?
Originally published in 1982, the collection of comic poems is Roald Dahl’s take on six classic fairy tales.
Each is given its own twist with Little Red Riding Hood carrying a gun and a bit of a sticky end for Cinderella’s ugly sisters.
Who’s in the cast?
The voices will be provided by a star studded cast including David Walliams, Tamsin Greig, Dominic West and Rob Brydon.
David Walliams said to the BBC: "I absolutely loved working on these films. I'm a massive fan of Dahl's work and to be able to voice his characters was a real treat.”
Speaking about the role Dominic West said: "Voicing the Wolf n these wonderful films was a huge amount of fun
"The incredible poems written by Roald Dahl have been beautifully brought to life by the production team and I was delighted to take part in the project."
When is it on?
The BBC are yet to confirm their Christmas timetable but the two half-hour shows are likely to air in the two weeks before Christmas, when the BBC usually run the jewels in their festive season crown. Watch this space…
