GET ready for tricks or treaters by turning your front door into a monster face.
These clever little creations can be customised depending on how you're feeling come the 31 October - spooky, silly or scary.
How to make a monster door
All it takes are a few sheets of card, a little imagination, quite a lot of snipping and a final flourish of sticky tape.
So even if you’re a crafting novice you can piece together something along the impressive lines to get your Halloween party off to a swinging start.
You will need:
- Around eight sheets of card, various colours
- Scissors
- A pen
- Double sided sticky tape
Cost for one door, £1.11p
Card = 85p (£1.70 for 20 sheets from Asda)
Permanent marker = 16p (£1.99 for a 12 pack from B&M)
Double sided sticky tape = 10p (£2 for 10m from Asda)
Method
Step 1
For the design above you will need to cut the following: two large white circles, two small green circles, two black apostrophe shapes, two smaller white apostrophe shapes, eight rectangles cut from a single sheet of white card, two black half moon shapes, one red boarder made by cutting out almost the entire centre of a piece of red card and rounding off the corners and two jagged orange ‘eyebrow’ shapes. You will also need one entire piece of pink card.
Step 2
For the eyes, take the two small green circles and attach to the larger white circles using the double-sided tape. On top of these small circles fix the small white apostrophe shapes. Finally add the two black half moon shapes to create the eyelids.
Step 3
For the mouth, cut some jagged edges into your eight white rectangles to make them look like teeth. Then stick these down in two rows on the pink background. Finally add the red outline on top using tape and round off the pink corners to match the shape of the red piece of card.
Step 4
To assemble, stick the two eyes in the centre of your front door using double-sided tape, arrange the eyebrows pointing down above. Then stick on the two black apostrophe shapes where you want the nose and finish with the mouth in the centre, at the bottom.
These shapes are just a guide, you can have fun experimenting with your monster’s face. A Cyclops looks great too for instance if you just cut one large eye in the centre, as does a dinosaur if you cur pointy teeth and arrange them in more of a circle shape, and cut some smaller eyes.
There are loads of ways to save money this Halloween and making your own decorations is the funnest and easiest way.
Just use items lying around your home to create the perfect atmosphere - without breaking the bank.
