The ‘poor man’s Big Mac’ craze has swept the internet and gives the taste of the McDonald’s burger for just £1.49

The burger is part of the now confirmed secret menu at the fast food giant

MCDONALD’S meals might not break the bank, but if there was a way to get the taste of a Big Mac burger for £1.49  rather than £2.99 wouldn't you want to give it a go?

It's been dubbed the “poor man’s Big Mac" online and it's one of the more popular tricks from the restaurant's secret menu.

Not heard of that? It's a number of underground items that you can't order in the normal way at the fast food giant. So swan up to a server and ask for a "poor man's Big Mac' in your local fast food restaurant and you'll probably be met with a bewildered expression.

The trick is to ask for all the bits individually, then build it yourself.

The idea of a secret menu at the burger joint was discussed on a , with a worker explaining: “Just like with any of our sandwiches, you can add, remove or change ingredients by special request.

“These are called ‘grill orders’ (i.e Big Mac no pickle).

“The items on the ‘secret menu’ weren’t invented by anyone officially at McDonald’s, it’s just a random person's guide to burgers you could potentially ‘hack’ at McDonald's."

As well as coming up with crazy burger orders - like the Monster Mac, which is basically a Big Mac but with SIX PATTIES - it's apparently possible to get cheaper versions of favourites too.

To get the 'poor man's Big Mac', you need to order a cheeseburger which is 99p and ask for no ketchup or mustard.

They tell the server you want Big Mac sauce and shredded lettuce added instead.

This trick will give you the taste of the Big Mac, but with only one beef patty... so we're not quite there.

Ordering a double cheese burger for £1.49 supersizes things and all you'll be missing is the middle bun.

Nick Chapman, from the Dude Foods blog, explains that to “hack the menu”, you just have to be bold and polite.

He explained: “The best advice I can give is to just go in and do it.

“The worst they can say is no, but if you’re nice enough and explain it to them, they’d probably be fine with making it.”

The McDonald's menu is changing all the time,  in fact - some McDonald's restaurants aren't selling burgers or chips at all.
