Calling all chocolate lovers - how much do you know about the iconic brand?

CADBURY is probably one of the most-loved British companies – and for good reason.

They provide us with the chocolate-y goodness that we all grew up one, and sometimes all you need is chunk of Dairy Milk to get you through a tough day.

But just how much do you know about the iconic brand?

Here are 12 things you probably didn’t know about the famous chocolatiers.

They gave you bank holidays off

Cadbury were the pioneering company to stop working on Bank Holidays, adopting the custom of closing the factory on bank holidays.

Thanks for the extra lie in, Cadburys.

Purple wasn’t always their colour

Cadbury wasn't always that rich signature purple and gold wrapping we all know and love.

In fact, until 1920, the chocolate was wrapped in a pale mauve with red script.

But, they went on to patent that iconic purple

The purple colour, named Pantone 2685c, was initially owned by Cadbury.

Cool, right?

However, Nestlé took them to court over it.

And despite fighting tooth and nail to win the 4 year court case, Cadbury eventually lost the rights to the purple shade when Nestlé challenged the ruling back in 2013.

Over 250,000 Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons are made every minute

This amounts to a whopping 15,000,000 an hour and  400,000,000 every single day.

Bournville chocolate was launched in 1908

It was named after the Bournville based Cadbury factory where it was produced

Talk about a lot of chocolate buttons…

The first bar of Cadbury milk chocolate was made in 1897

This happened when the brand had lots of cocoa butter left over from making Cocoa Essence – which they utilised to make bars of chocolate.

Bars of Cadbury milk chocolate first appeared in 1897, with Dairy Milk finally hitting shelves in 1905 -with more milk than anything else on the market.

The first Cadbury Easter egg was made in 1875

The first egg was crafted out of dark chocolate and was filled with sugar-coated chocolate drops known as 'dragees'.

The American and UK versions of Cadbury chocolate taste different

British-made Cadbury follows a slightly different recipe than the American version.

In the US, the first ingredient listed in the chocolate is sugar, but milk is listed first in the British version.

There’s a reason for that Diary Milk logo

Cadbury Dairy Milk contains a glass and a half of milk in every half-pound chocolate bar sold in the UK.

Cadbury were the official chocolate makers for Queen Victoria and the royal family

Cadbury were the official cocoa and chocolate makers for Queen Victoria.

John Cadbury and his brother were given the first royal warrant by the Queen in 1854.

Cadbury was the first to use a heart- shaped box for chocolates

The brand were inspired  to do this in time for Valentine’s Day in 1861.
