In Marks & Spencer’s Christmas advert 2016 we meet Mrs Claus the real secret to festive cheer
MARKS and Spencer has launched its Christmas with Love campaign starring Mrs Claus - hot on the heels of John Lewis’ ad about a pooch who loves trampolining.
The schmaltzy tale features a boy called Jake who has spent the last year squabbling with his sister Anna.
As Christmas approaches, Jake decides to write to Mrs Claus - played by British actress Janet McTeer - to help him give something special to his sister.
Stylish Mrs Claus then steps in by flying from Lapland across London in her helicopter to deliver Anna’s present - red glittery trainers - on Christmas morning.
As she departs, it magically begins to snow, delivering a white Christmas for all to enjoy.
M&S - which recently announced the closure of 30 stores - said the ad was developed after speaking to thousands of customers about what they want from the brand.
Spokesman Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne said: “Mrs Claus is the result of thousands of conversations that we had with our customers to understand what they want from M&S – which is warmth, empathy and a touch of humour presented in a modern and contemporary way.
“She epitomises the huge efforts our customers put into making the festive season special and represents the love and togetherness that customers want to feel and see in abundance at Christmas.”
The ad launched tonight at 9pm - following on from John Lewis’ on Wednesday.
Sainsbury’s festive offering - the other big player in the battle for the best Christmas commercial - will air on TV at Monday at 9.15pm.
