Now a huge airline has even started charging for overhead luggage space
FIRST they started charging you for your peanuts, next you had to pay extra to reserve a seat and now one US airline will start billing passengers for using the overhead lockers.
Welcome to air travel in 2016.
This week United Airlines, the third largest airline in the US, announced that it would be introducing a fare class below economy - called Basic Economy.
It will limit travellers to one carry-on bag that fits under their seat.
If passengers want to store a bag in the overhead lockers, it'll cost them an extra £26.
Basic Economy customers will also only get an assigned seat at check-in on the day, which means people flying together could well end up sitting separately.
On top of that, no flight changes are allowed after booking, Basic Economy travellers will board the plane last and they won't be able to collect their air miles.

But United Airlines say it's what the customer wants.
"Customers have told us that they want more choice and Basic Economy delivers just that,” said executive vice president Julia Haywood in a statement.
“By offering low fares while also offering the experience of travelling on our outstanding network, with a variety of on-board amenities and great customer service, we are giving our customers an additional travel option from what United offers today.”
The idea is that with fewer people trying to get their luggage into the overhead bins, it will cut down boarding time considerably.
But, the new stripped back fare hasn't gone down well with everyone.
Consumer groups argued that by prohibiting any ticket changes and stripping out most of the amenities usually offered on-board, the airline has gone overboard.
"This is an example of airline consolidation gone too far, with choice and transparency being wrung out of the system," Charlie Leocha, chairman of consumer advocacy group Travellers United, told the .
A United Airlines spokesperson told The Sun that Basic Economy travellers will be able to bring a small personal item on board "such as a shoulder bag, backpack, laptop bag or other small item."
They added that "Basic Economy fares have the same checked baggage policies as regular United Economy tickets.
"Customers also have the option to buy a United Economy fare where they are allowed a personal item and a carry-on bag for overhead bin storage at no additional cost."
The new fare will go on sale on US domestic flights from early 2017.
