Protect your skin against chilly weather this winter… as we reveal the best face treatments on the high street
Your skin needs special attention during the winter months
YOU may have swapped your bare legs for 120-denier tights but have you also changed your beauty regime in time for winter?
The chilly air and biting winds – not to mention the blazing-hot radiators – mean your skin requires special care and attention at this time of year.
Here, CLARE O’REILLY asks celebrity make-up artist Julia Bowden to recommend some of her own favourite winter-proofing products.
Cleanse
Julia says: “The dry air and winds of winter, not to mention indoor heating, can dry out skin more than the sunshine in the summer.
“With Neutrogena products, a little goes a long way.
“Using this cleansing wash will help to keep your skin hydrated and looking soft.”
Protect
Julia says: “Don’t let the price tag of this product put you off – you will use less than a 5p piece of this every day.
"Use it under your moisturiser and it will activate dermal function, hydrating your skin and improving elasticity almost instantly.”
Eyes
Julia says: “A slick of this under your eyes before bed will keep them moisturised and feeling healthy.
“Winter can make your eyes look up to five years older, with dark circles especially prevalent – keeping the skin under the eyes moisturised will help combat this.”
Night treats
Julia says: “Detoxifying properties leave skin looking less tired.”
Julia says: “Use your rest time to regenerate skin – you can feel it work.”
Hands
Julia says: “When it comes to hand cream, Norwegian Formula is one of the best around.
“It is non-greasy and absorbed quickly and it also contains minerals which boost collagen production and it helps combat brown spots.”
Primer
Julia says: “The astragalus root in this product has anti-oxidant properties.
“Studies have shown it activates an anti-ageing enzyme in skin. It’s a moisturiser but can double as a primer to keep your slap where it is meant to be.”
Moisturise
Julia says: “Although there is no longer brilliant sunshine every day, your skin still needs to be protected from harsh winter rays.
“You won’t need an amount bigger than the head of a drawing pin, so it’ll last for ages.”
Shower
Julia says: “Mixing a tiny bit of coconut oil with coffee grounds will give you amazing all-over exfoliation and moisturise from top to toe.
“It’s gentle enough for your face but good for the body too. Wear flip-flops so you don’t slip.”
