Poundland launches its first Christmas advert…and it looks like it cost about a pound
The budget chain has released its festive ad and there are no bells and whistles in sight
POUNDLAND is known for helping everyone cut costs and they have managed to keep the budget down on their new Christmas advert.
There are no pups, no celebrity soundtrack and Mrs Claus doesn’t jump in her helicopter.
The no frills TV advert has turned the other high street stores’ tradition of raking up a multi-million pound bills on its head, opting for a more basic stripped back approach.
The short clip is filmed on a regular high street just outside a Poundland shop and the stars of the show are the Great British public.
In the same way that Aldi and Lidl have challenged consumers to guess the value of their low-cost items Poundland are doing the same.
The advert – which airs tonight on a number of channels – then shows the shock on the taste-testers’ faces when it is revealed the products can all be bought from the shop for just £1.
Featured in the film are a box of delicate looking chocolate mints and a tin of festive shortbread.
But’s it’s not just food that they are promoting, there are also decorations, Christmas cushions and other homewares.
One woman enjoyed the tartan box of shortbread biscuits so much she suggested she would pay £7.50 for them.
While another young chap quipped that he would spend £100 on a box of their after dinner chocolate mints after sampling one.

The advert will make its debut tonight and air throughout this Christmas season
Poundland's trading director, Barry Williams, said: “We're very excited to be able to announce the launch of our first national Christmas TV ad campaign.

“We are confident the adverts will resonate with new and existing Poundland customers, whilst providing an element of discovery, surprise and delight in the run up to Christmas.”
This comes hot on the heels of the eagerly anticipated John Lewis advert which saw Buster the dog enjoying the gifts on Christmas.

This is the first year that Poundland has gotten in on the action releasing their national festive advert just in time to catch the Christmas shopping rush.
