Is this the coolest hotel in the world? The first permanent ice hotel has just opened… and it’s always a brisk -5c
The hotel is the best place to see the Northern
A HOTEL made completely from ice called Icehotel365 has just opened in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. It's open 365 days a year, has nine luxury suites, 11 art suites, an ice art gallery and an even an ice bar.
While there are lots of seasonal ice hotels that exist in around the world this is the first permanent one, which has been built on the same site to the original, far more basic Icehotel, built in 1992.
Ranging between 323-430 sqft, each bespoke ice-sculptured suite has been conceptualised by a collection of international designers. The deluxe suites will feature en suite bathrooms with a private sauna if you want to warm up.
A mixture of snow and ice - known as 'snice' - is made from air, snow cannons and water from the neighbouring Torne River. This specially made material is then attached to the walls and roofs inside the hotel which makes it strong.
The temperature all year round will be a frosty -5c. In summer this icy environment is maintained via a specialised refrigeration unit that runs on energy from an on-site solar cell facility to prevent the structure from melting.
In an attempt to embrace nature, grass will cover the whole hotel roof throughout the summer months.
The idea to build a permanent ice hotel actually started as creative director Arne Bergh's conceptualising of year round ice bar and galley.
Previous incarnations have been allowed to melt before being completely remodelled and rebuilt each year.
The midnight sun shines for 100-consecutive days above the above the hotel, making it one of the best spots in the world to watch the Northern Lights between September and March.
Around 50,000 guests from all over the world visit the classic Icehotel every year.
