The island is the perfect spot for nature lovers, with seven miles of rugged coastline dotted with cliffs and tiny coves.

The estate agency Savills who are marketing the property said: ‘Tanera Mòr is the main island of the Summer Isles archipelago, a group of rugged and exquisitely beautiful islands lying just 1.5 miles off the northwest coast of Scotland.

‘Its coastline has innumerable perfect picnic spots interspersed with fresh water lochans; and wonderful waters in which to swim, sail and fish.

‘The horizons provide a wonderful display, with the Outer Hebrides to the west, the mountains of Coigach and Assynt to the north and east and the Fannich and Torridon hills to the south.

‘The views from the island are truly stunning and ever changing according to the weather, light and seasons.’

As if it doesn’t already sound like the perfect holiday retreat, the island also comes with its own private postal service which means it can issue private stamps – just to add that personal touch to any postcards for family and friends.

There is plenty of bird-spotting to be had along the west coast of the island, which attracts a variety of seabirds including Arctic terns, great northern divers, grebes and little auks.

Meanwhile, anyone hiking around the south eastern coast has a good chance of spotting the local otters who regularly play in the shallow waters.

More than 164,000 native trees have been planted by the owners in the last years too, as part of an ongoing woodland regeneration scheme.

Many of the cottages on the island are already used as part of a holiday lettings business by the owners and it is also a regular stopping point for sea kayakers and yachts, with a café and post office on hand to service daily needs.

The owners are looking at offers over £1,950,000 but if that sounds a bit steep, there is also an opportunity to buy the island as three separate lots, priced at £700,000, £430,000 and £820,000.
