THE festive party season is certainly fun – but too many late nights and glasses of mulled wine can leave your skin partied out.
Keep your complexion in mint condition with these great skin products and foods – so you will look good long after the holiday period and well into the New Year.
Here, nutritionist KIM PEARSON picks the superfoods to boost your skin from the inside out, while celebrity make-up artist JULIA BOWDEN picks the products to leave your skin glowing.

Cleanser
Julia says: “For a glowing complexion in your Christmas snaps, start by ensuring your skin is clean.
“Rossi Avocado & Green Tea Cleansing Lotion (£14.25, ) is not cheap but a little goes a very long way.
“It is lightweight and when your skin gets a bashing from wearing lots of make-up, it’s important to remove it pore-deep while also nourishing it. That’s what this lotion does.”
Night moisturiser
“While sleeping regenerates your body during the festive season, using an overnight treatment such as Sukin Purely Ageless Botanical Hydration Booster (£23.95, ) will regenerate your skin.
“It repairs, hydrates and nourishes tired skin and has rose hip oil to keep skin looking healthy, plus jojoba and almond oil to soothe irritations from heavy make-up use.”
Facial scrub
“While we are used to seeing kale or the superfood spirulina advertised in smoothies and juices, hardworking scrub Sukin Supergreens Detoxifying Facial Scrub (£6.63, ) also contains them both — as well as a whole host of other superfoods.
“This scrub gently removes dirt and impurities while polishing the skin and leaving your complexion feeling smoother and fresher.
“Consider it a healthy smoothie for your face.”
Shampoo
“Christmas is one of the harshest times for hair in terms of using hair products.
“But a little of a great shampoo such as Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo (£12, ) goes a long way. If your scalp is irritated by certain products, this is perfect for removing build-up or localised dermatitis.
“It contains aloe and camomile, so it’ll soothe even the most aggravated scalp and is perfect for coloured hair.”
All-round balm
“Whether you want soft lips, tamed eyebrows, glossy eyes or glittering cheeks, Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm For Lips (£12, ) is the Swiss Army knife of beauty products.
“Made with 100 per cent pure medical-grade lanolin, a little of this will put paid to chapped lips.
“It’s also a great base for a glossy eye, is perfect for taming runaway brows and soothes red cuticles.”
Face mask
“A great treat for party season is Maskorea Too Many Late Nights Sheet Mask (£7.99, ).
“It has three sachets: a pre-mask foaming cleanser to remove make-up, a serum infused facial sheet mask and a post-mask anti-ageing night cream. It’s perfect for tired, dehydrated skin.
“You’ll see the biggest difference the morning after use, even after big nights that week.”
Sprouts
Kim says: “Everyone is raving about kale as a superfood because it is healthy and packed with iron.
“But sprout leaves are just as good for you.
“They not only make you feel festive but your pre-Christmas body will be bursting with the health benefits. You get vitamins C, A and K, plus protein, fibre, magnesium and calcium.
“Fibre is important for supporting a healthy digestive system, which is vital when you’ve over-indulged. Sprouts also help lower cholesterol.”
Clementines
“Nothing smells quite as Christmassy as clementines.
“Like all citrus fruit, these are a great source of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect our cells from free radical damage. Free radicals are produced in excess by things such as alcohol, smoking, pollution and fried foods — which are all plentiful during the festive season.
“Don’t just rely on the orange juice in your buck’s fizz — eat a few of these fruits too.”
Liquorice
“Often overlooked in favour of chocolate at Christmas, liquorice is actually packed with health benefits which your body will thank you for.
“In addition to being used in ancient medicine as a mood stabiliser and liver protector, it also protects the stomach lining, which is a huge benefit with all the rich foods eaten during the Christmas period.
“It has also been found to alleviate stomach upsets and heartburn. That’s something you will be glad of after tucking into your hearty Christmas dinner.”
Popcorn
“It’s a great snack if you’re watching your calories this festive season.
"Home-made popcorn is healthier than crisps and dips and is a natural, inexpensive, gluten-free snack packed with fibre and polyphenols — organic chemicals that help to prevent cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
“Instead of undoing its health benefits by slathering on butter, go for grated lemon zest and roast kale crushed up with avocado oil or sprinkle on wasabi powder, which has anti-inflammatory benefits.”
