From thigh chafing to ‘sticky’ sex… woman writes honest account of what it’s really like to be fat during summer
Radio host and writer Melanie Tait says that summer is one of the times that it "sucks to be a fat person"
A WOMAN has written an honest essay revealing what it’s like to be fat during summer.
Radio host and writer Melanie Tait, revealed that a summer when she was a size 12 was one of the best of her life.
She told : “I enjoyed every second of it, because I’d lived 33 summers before as a fat person.
She went on to describe how, that year, she had enjoyed paddle boarding, spending days at the beach and hiking - without worrying about her thighs chafing.
But, since then, however, Melanie says that she has gained more than 50 kilos (almost eight stone) - and summer is tough again.
Melanie went on to list many of the physical realities of being ‘fat’ during the summer months - from sweating from every part of her body to not being able to shop for summer clothes.
In her piece for she goes on to list numerous occasions when being on the larger side "sucks".
But, she insists, that the absolute worst time to be “a fatty” is the summer.
She says that being overweight means plenty of sweating - from under your arms, your back, your neck and in every fold in your skin.
She adds that finding clothes that will keep you cool of the right size is difficult too, adding that she has about three outfits that she rotates.
Sex isn't fun either, she said, because “everything becomes sticky.”
She added: “Your undies become like a heavy second skin and your bra enjoys digging into swollen up, hot sweaty, skin. Yum.”
But, in her opinion, the worst thing is the dreaded thigh chafe.
She added that if you dare venture out in a dress, without adequate means to prevent rubbing, you're doomed.

She went on to add, that as well as causing physical discomfort, being fat can also be mentally damaging.
She explained: “We live in a society where it's a sin to be fat - it's seen as lazy and indulgent and deliberate (though why anyone would choose the above if they had an actual choice, beats me!”
Melanie went on to say that it takes a lot of strength and confidence to reveal cellulite, stretch marks and rolls on your body.
“So, before you judge any of your red faced, sweaty, uncomfortable friends this summer and guide them towards paleo or whatever’s keeping you thin for the last little while, have a think about the pain they might be in”, she added.
