Is yours on the list? These are the highest paid jobs with the lowest stress levels

If you want to earn a healthy salary without spending your life getting hot under the collar at work, perhaps you should think about switching to one of these professions

IT'S a common misconception that stress is an inevitable side effect of being in a highly paid job.

But this is not the case if you're an orthodontist, an economist or an astronomer.

These professions all feature on a list of well-paid jobs that come with relatively low stress levels.

Compiled by , it reveals that it's possible to earn up to £180,000 a year without constantly pulling your hair out.

Many of the jobs on the list, such as mathematician, statistician, materials scientist and physicist, sound rather tricky, but they all rank low when it comes to stress and high in terms of salary.

How anxiety-ridden a job is was calculated using information from the US Department of Labor's Occupational Information Network (O*NET) database.

Each occupation was allocated a 'stress tolerance' rating on a scale from zero to 100, with a lower number indicating a less stressful job relative to other professions.

The rating factors in how regularly employees have to accept criticism and cope with stressful situations at work effectively.

The list of 20 jobs that all register a stress rating of 70 or less, but still carry a healthy wage of at least £50,000 ($70,000) a year, was then compiled.

Though it's data from an American organisation, the salaries and stress equivalents are reckoned to be comparable to the UK.

A materials scientist was top of the chart, with a stress tolerance rating of 53 and an average salary of £77,000 ($94,940).

Mathematician came in at second, followed by geographer, economist, economist, statistician, physicist and political scientist.

Here is the complete list.
