Intelligence documents allegedly reveal how Hitler may have faked his own death and started a new life in South America

INTELLIGENCE experts have explored the possibility that Adolf Hitler could have escaped unharmed from his Berlin bunker to take refuge in South America.

The Nazi leader is known to have committed suicide after the Allies toppled his German Empire, but declassified intelligence documents apparently suggest that this may not have been the case.

Instead of ending his life in his fortified Berlin bunker, there are claims that the Austrian-born leader of Germany's Third Reich may have faked his own death in order to escape justice.

reports that intelligence experts poured over 14,000 declassified documents to offer the alternate version of how Hitler's life may have really ended.

Former CIA operative Bob Baer and Tim Kennedy, from the US special forces, investigate the outlandish claim as part of the latest Hunting Hitler series, which airs on the History Channel tomorrow.

One declassified British intelligence document claims that a Luftwaffe pilot flew Hitler out of Berlin on 29 April 1945 - the day before he was thought to have killed himself alongside his wife Eva Braun.

Whilst this alone isn't enough to confirm the theory, the pair found more compelling evidence to suggest that all we know about the vile Nazi's death could be wrong.

It was also alleged that there is evidence of a secret exit from Hitler's fortified bunker, which he could have used to escape justice as Russian forces marched on Berlin.

This previously unknown fifth exit from Hitler's hideout is said to have lead to a runway, which the Fuehrer could have used to escape the country with the help of Germany's Luftwaffe.

What's more, an SS officer reportedly saw Hitler in Denmark before he changed planes and escaped Europe - with his sights allegedly set on starting a new life in Argentina.

According to ex-CIA man Baer, Hitler had planned to build a new Reich in South America after his plans for Nazi domination of Europe were thwarted by the Allies.
