The annual event. which has taken place on February 1 since 2013 in 140 countries across the world, aims to encourage all women to experience what it feels like to wear the hijab regardless of their religion.
The idea is that it will promote a greater understanding between faiths and help non-Muslim people to appreciate why the garment is worn.

On Instagram alone, there are more than 25,000 posts of women with the hashtag #worldhijabday.
The images help to reveal to the rest of the world, the wide range of women who wear the item.
While some are pictured wearing loose dark clothing on the rest of their bodies, others pose in pictures wearing brightly coloured fitted clothing, with expertly made-up faces.
