The woman was on her way home from work when she heard the man making "disgusted" noises at a mum with a young baby

A WOMAN has taken to Mumsnet after she confronted a man on a train about his attitude towards a breastfeeding mother.

She wrote: “Today coming home I was at a table with a woman and baby opposite me and man next to me.

“I've seen the man a few times- it's a small train and we obviously do a similar commute.

“The woman started to breastfeed her baby and almost immediately the man started making disgusted noises and told her to ‘go and do that in the toilet’.

“She seemed really shocked/speechless.

“I said excuse me but she isn't bothering me and I'm opposite her, pointed out that it's illegal to stop someone from breastfeeding in public now, and invited him to go and eat his smelly egg sandwich in the toilet instead.

“He wasn't really having any of it and said she was flaunting herself, to think of the effect it might have on ‘those boys’ (a table of oblivious teenagers halfway down the train).

The woman was now in tears. I'd had a bad day at work and lost the plot a bit.”

Tabbylady went on to explain that she works in criminal justice and that she had been working on a presentation on sex offenders on her laptop and had seen the man peering at her screen.

She added: “I told him, very loudly, that if he was unable to cope with the merest sight of breast in a completely appropriate, public context and was finding himself uncontrollably aroused then I was seriously concerned that he was some kind of sexual deviant and should seek help immediately.

“I did this in a very earnest, straight-faced, concerned-for-your-health and totally PA way.

“People nearby noticed, and laughed.

“He was all flustered, went scarlet and buried himself in the Metro.”

The user added that she and the mum got off at the same stop – where she apologised to the mother in case she had embarrassed her.

The mum told her that it was fine and that it was “nice to have been stuck up for”

But, unsure if she had been too harsh on the man, Tabbylady asked users if she had “taken it too far with the man” as she’ll “probably see him on again on the train”.

She added: “Do I need to apologise to him too?”

But, it seems like she had nothing to worry about – as the overwhelming majority of people thought she’d done an amazing thing and that the bloke on the train “deserved it”.

One user replied: “Nope. He was being rude, and he started it.”

While another user added:  “I think it was a really nice thing you did to stick up for her. Sounds like he deserved a talking to”.

Another thanks her for sticking up for breastfeeding mums everywhere, adding: “Well done you!! You did a huge favour for all breastfeeding mothers who have to deal with this crap on a regular basis.”

One woman agreed: “Don't you dare apologise! I'd have loved to have seen it!”

“He should be the one apologising!” another mother replied.

One even went as far as saying that the only thing she was annoyed about was “The only thing I'm annoyed about is that the whole carriage didn’t give you a standing ovation once you'd told him off”.

However, there were a couple who questioned how extreme the situation was.

One wrote: “You did take it too far and it's unprofessional for someone in your kind of job to be publicly accusing people of sexual deviancy. So I hope you have exaggerated it a bit.”

While another added: “Practically calling the man a Sex Offender is Appalling and disgusting.

“I hope nobody filmed your little rant... I can see you being out of a job.”

Yikes.

What do yu think, was she in the right, or the wrong?
