A YOUNG mum who hoped to find love ahead of Valentine's Day claims that dating apps are full of 'odd' people - and she has the proof.

Katie Mccarthy, from Stockton-on-Tees, came to this conclusion after she mistook a man for a croissant on Tinder.

The barmaid had only just joined the dating website after splitting from her partner of 11 years around a year ago and decided to browse "for a laugh";.

However Katie's friends were left in hysterics when she shared an image of a man she claimed looked exactly like a croissant due to his pose, tan and muscles.

The mum-of-four has never met anyone through online dating because most men only want to send her a "dick pic" after talking for a few minutes.

Katie, from Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, said: "I had only had it about four days and that was my first time of using it.

"Everyone on there was ridiculous. I was left thinking 'What am I doing on here?'. There were such strange people.

"I'm not being awful but he looked like a pastry.

"There were all sorts of odd people on there, with odd interests.

"Online dating is not something I would normally do. But I was bored and thought it would be a laugh.

"I'd only been on there an hour or two when I came across this guy.

"It was his main photo. My first impression when I saw it was a croissant – that's what popped into my head. I couldn't stop laughing.

"To be fair, he looks quite good in some of his other pictures on the site, but for some reason he has chosen this daft one as his main photo.

"He wasn't my type and everyone has their own tastes to be fair but that wasn't a good photo to use in my opinion.

"I find dating to be quite awkward really, especially after being with someone so long.

"With online dating, people just seem to want to send you a dick pic straight away after talking for a minute. I've had that a million times. I've even had it from people I know.

"But it seems that's dating in this day and age. But that's not the way to my heart.

"I don't like romance that much so I am hard to win over. But probably the way to my heart is with pizza.

"If there are any men thinking of getting in touch then pizza is probably the best option – certainly not a dick pic."

After taking a screenshot of the mystery man and positioning it next to an image of a croissant that looked strikingly similar, Katie shared it with friends.

She wrote on her post: "IM F****** BAD HERE. Sat flicking through tinder as ya do and seriously (no offence if anyone knows him but I just had to swipe left cos he LOOKS LIKE A CROISSANT." [sic]

Many friends agreed, claiming he was a 'spitting image' for the French pastry while others said 'how rude' and claimed there were lots of 'creeps' on Tinder.

Katie said: "When I shared the image with my friends, they all thought it was hilarious. They thought it was so funny.

"I hope no one knows him. I looked him up and I don't have any connections with him and I don't recognise him so I don't know where he is from.

"But the app said he was only about 19km away so he could from around the area, or he could be visiting.

"If he got in touch with me to say he had seen me comparing him to a croissant I would be happy to say hello to him. I would explain it's just a bit of fun – if you can't have a laugh now what else is there to do?

"But if he was really upset with it I would take it down. But it's not intended to cause offence.

"I have never met anyone who I have met online at all. I keep myself to myself.

"The people I usually date are friends of friends or people I meet through work colleagues but I've not had anything serious in the last years since I came out of an 11-year relationship.

"I thought I would have a play on Tinder but it's not for me. I don't go for looks I go for personality so Tinder is no good for me as it's all based on looks.

"I don't go for muscles so this guy is not really my type. I think it looks a bit show off, and appears a bit big headed. I prefer a 'dad bod'. A proper man who is a bit rough not who spends the day in the gym.

"I haven't deleted the app yet so there is still time to have a flick through. It should provide some amusement at least when I'm bored, more than anything."
