Who is Belarus’s Eurovision Song Contest 2017 entry? NAVIBAND performing Historyja majho žyccia in the FINAL

NAVIBAND has been chosen by Belarus to represent them at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

They will compete in the final tonight (May 13), but what is their background, why were they selected and what is Naviband singing?

Who is Naviband?

Navidband, also known as just Navi, are an indie pop duo from Belarus.

Made up of Arciom Lukjanienka, who sings and plays guitar, and Ksienija Žuk, who plays the keyboard and sings, the double act sing in their own Belarusian language.

The duo formed in 2013 in the country's capital Minsk and released their first single in summer of that year. Their first album followed shortly afterwards.

How was Naviband chosen to represent Belarus?

The national final for Eurovision song contest entrant took place on January 20, 2017.

There were 13 different acts competing to represent their country in the final competition.

The competitors were judged with a combination of a public vote and votes cast by a jury with Naviband's overall score coming in highest.

What song is Naviband performing and who wrote it?

Naviband will be performing Historyja majho žyccia (Story Of My Life) a song written in their native Belarusian language.

Both lyrics and music for the song are courtesy of Arciom Lukjanienka the band's singer and guitarist.

It will be the first time a Belrusian entry has sung in their own language having always previously sung in English.

How many times has Belarus won the Eurovision Song Contest?

Belarus has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest 13 times since their first entry in 2004.

They have only qualified for the final on four occasions in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2014 and their highest score in 2007 when they came sixth with Work Your Magic sung by Dmitry Koldun.

After failing to qualify in 2009 the president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that they needed to completely replace the team behind Belarus's entry.

When and where is the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 final?

The final of Eurovision 2017 is taking place tonight (May 13).

It will be shown on BBC One at 8pm, and will be broadcast live from the International Exhibition Centre in Ukraine's capital Kiev.

The reigning champion Jamala will be in attendance on the night to hand over the honour to this year’s winner performers.
