The Simpsons takes aim at rival cartoon South Park with funny couch gag

THIS is the clever new Simpsons intro which takes aim at rival animated show South Park.
One of the most iconic elements of The Simpsons is the couch gag which always takes place at the end of the show's introduction.
But occasionally the creators of the long-running TV show let another animator take on the introductory sequence, leading to new styles and influences making their way into the couch gags.
Recently, the animators behind adult comedy Robot Chicken were given the chance to take a stab at the famous Simpsons introduction - and they didn't disappoint.
The scene they came up with sees the famous family make a journey into other animated worlds, including the setting of rival show South Park.
After the family realise that the painting which normally hangs above the sofa has gone missing, Homer sets off on an off-set odyssey to track down the artwork.
This leads him to the setting of South Park, and Homer seems less than impressed with the childish animation style which defines the show.
Looking around at his surroundings, Homer quips: "Is this a TV show, or did I walk into a third grade shoebox diorama?"
The dysfunctional dad then laughs off the group of sweary children in front of him, and continues on his quest to find his missing painting.
The bizarre gag then continues into other animated worlds, with Homer eventually coming across his painting and returning it to its rightful place above the sofa.
However, fans are more interested in the South Park dig the animators managed to slip in to the sequence.
This isn't the first time there has been a crossover between the two shows, with one South Park episode featuring constant references to The Simpsons.
An episode called "Simpsons Already Did It" sees the South Park crew live out the plots of multiple Simpsons episodes, and even features the re-imagining of South Park characters in the Simpsons' animation style.
This isn't the first time The Simpsons has been in the news recently, thanks to the show's eerie ability to predict the future.
