Who is Dr Pixie McKenna? Staying Healthy, Embarrassing Bodies and Freaky Eaters presenter – all you need to know

She has pretty much seen it all but who is the TV medical magician? We've got the lowdown

AT ONE time or another we all have to go to the GP and when those circumstances arise, we just keep our fingers crossed for a friendly, understanding doctor.

One such practitioner, who has pretty much seen it all (and then some) is Dr Pixie McKenna, but who is the TV medical magician? Here’s all you need to know…

Who is Dr Pixie McKenna?

Bernadette Anne McKenna was born on January 20, 1971 in Ireland.

She studied medicine at University College Cork, Ireland graduating in 1995.

After qualifying to be a GP in 1999 she upped sticks and moved to London where she practised in Notting Hill for three years.

Before splitting her time between London and Ireland, where she set up her own GP practise.

When did Dr Pixie McKenna present Embarrassing Bodies?

In 2007 Dr Pixie McKenna began co-presenting Embarrassing Illnesses which subsequently became Embarrassing Bodies.

The show was designed to highlight common medical conditions that people felt ashamed to discuss or speak to a doctor about.

The BAFTA award winning show ran until 2015, with a number of spin offs shows like Embarrassing Bodies: Live from the Clinic, Embarrassing Fat Bodies and Embarrassing Teenage Bodies.

What else have I seen Dr Pixie McKenna in?

Aside from assisting with the nation’s embarrassing bodies you may have also seen Dr Pixie on 2007 BBC3 series Freaky Eaters.

The show helped those with eating disorders overcome their issues.

She also, for time to time, guest stars on The Ray D’Arcy Show on Today FM where she discusses the embarrassing illnesses suffered by the programme’s listeners.

In February 2017 Dr Pixie McKenna launched her own show on Channel Four, Staying Healthy: A Doctor’s Guide where she offers tips on how to stay well as well as crunching the NHS’s health data to reveal what makes the UK sick.
