Customers can now order food and drinks at the pub chain without having to move from their seat
WETHERSPOON'S customers can now order food and drink to their table via a new free app.
Pub-goers can order their meal or drink and pay for it from the comfort of their seat, and it will be delivered directly to their table by a member of staff.
The app - called Order & Pay - launched this week and is free to download on iTunes or Google Play now.
It can be used in all 903 Wetherspoon pubs in the UK, and customers can use it just to order drinks.
The popular pub chain says the app is perfect for those with youngsters, as parents won't need to leave kids unattended to order food or drink.
It's also useful for those on their own who don't want to lose their table, for those who aren't mobile and might struggle to walk and stand at the bar, or for customers who simply don't want to carry a large round of drinks back to their table through a packed pub, the firm said.
Once downloaded, customers can use the app to give their table number, order food and drinks and then pay by card, Apple Pay, Android Pay or PayPal.
But the app has received a mixed reception from Wetherspoons customers.
It has an average rating of 3.1 out of five stars on Google Play's website.
One pub-goer, who rated the app five stars, said: "Pub was really busy. But from sitting down at a table to beer in my hand was less than three mins. Including entering my details and using PayPal. Awesome! I've been waiting for an app like this for years."
But another less impressed user, who gave the app just one star, said: "I'm fuming! It said there was an error with payment but it took money. No food came and staff said no order came through.
"Rang bank and they said it had charged my account three times!! Staff refused to do anything even with proof from the bank. This is theft!"
A two star rater said: "Doesn't include all drink options! Specially annoying when it's the drink you prefer! Also would be better if when choosing the food and drink deals, there is an option when booking and not have to go to drinks menu separately and wait for discount to be applied on ordering."
Customers must be over the age of 17 to download the app.
