But you may be able to enjoy warmed-up rice without the risk if you’re careful.

According to the : "It's not actually the reheating that's the problem – it's the way the rice has been stored before reheating."

This means that there are steps that you can take to prevent getting sick.

Rice has spores of a potentially harmful bacteria strand called Bacillus Cereus.

These are small cells capable of reproducing quickly - and they have the capability of making you ill if they're allowed to manifest.

If rice is left at room temperature after it's been boiled, these spores can become damaging bacteria, which then produce the toxins that cause vomiting and diarrhoea.

The longer rice is left, the more likely you are to get ill from eating eat.

So, when it comes to cooking rice, it’s best to eat it in a timely fashion.

Anything leftover should then be cooled quickly – but not in the fridge.

The NHS recommends cooling it within an hour.

Once it is cooled you can then pop it in the fridge – where it can keep for a day or so.

Then, when  it comes to reheating, rice should be steaming hot and shouldn’t be rewarmed more than once.
