Nestle said the new products also have fewer calories - around a tenth fewer -and remain free from artificial flavours, colours and sweeteners.

The new versions will be sold alongside the original ones - for now - with a “30% less sugar” banner on packaging.

The firm says it worked on 76 different versions of the recipe over the past two years.

A month ago Nestle announced it was cutting sugar across its range of choc and sweets by ten per cent by 2018 through a range of methods including reformulation.

The idea is to get Brits eating less sugar.

The first was a new recipe Kit-Kat which was unveiled last week.

They have more milk and cocoa and a “small” cut in sugar - though overall calories are only down a fraction.

The new versions of Fruit Pastels and Randoms will be exclusive to Tesco from this week before being available more widely in the summer.
