Some people swear by stuffing your shoes with damp newspaper or filling them with a bag of water and popping them in the freezer where the water expands and stretches them.

This, though, is a more targeted approach.

Fabulous' fashion editor, Lynne McKenna, reveals industry insiders rub a bar of soap onto the problem area to banish any pinching or rubbing.

She says: "This is the only tip to trust - especially with a nice pair of shoes.

"This way, you can't damage them or ruin the shoes' shape."

She advises it's best to do this the night before you plan to wear them to allow the softening trick to fully work its magic and absorb.

And if that doesn't solve the problem, it may be that you're one of the half of British women who is wearing the wrong shoe size.
