WHY IS THE WORKER BEE ASSOCIATED WITH MANCHESTER?
The worker bee features on Manchester’s coat of arms, and is a symbol of its hard-working history during the Industrial Revolution.
The city was full of textile mills in the 1800s that were often nicknamed “hives of activity”.
Workers inside the mills were often called “busy bees”, which is a term that is still used to represent hard work today.
People are also showing their support for the Manchester terror attack victims by getting tattoos of bees.
The worker bee is an emblem for Manchester, symbolising the city’s hard-working past as an Industrial Revolution hub, with workers being called “busy bees”.
Tattoo artist decided to come up with an idea of both paying tribute to Manchester using the symbol and raising money for victims.
The attack led to 22 people being killed and around 60 people being injured on Monday night in what was the worst terror attack in the UK since 7/7.
