WHAT THE FROCK

Mum sparks debate by asking if it’s OK to put her 10-week-old baby BOY in a dress…so would you?

Some people supported the woman but many others were outraged telling her to 'indulge her fetish with a doll'

ONE of the perks of a newborn baby is getting to choose the adorable little outfits they wear till they are old enough to pick for themselves.

But one mum’s choice of tiny-tot fashion caused a stir on Mumsnet after she asked the forum if it was wrong for her to dress her baby boy in frocks.

A Mumsnet user asked if she was being unreasonable by putting her 10-week-old son in a dress (photo posed by model)

user “Isthereanyusernamesleft” explained that other people seem to think her decision to make the 10-week-old boy wear dresses is wrong.

She said: “I think dresses are lovely & as I don't follow this gender society c**p of girls wear dresses & pink & boys wear blue & trousers.....I don't see the issue in putting my DS in a dress.

“However, everyone else thinks it's wrong! Is it??”

There were mixed comments from Mumsnet users.

One person said: “Don't be the cause of your son growing up confused with a few issues Op. Indulge your fetish for dresses on a doll perhaps?”

Another added: “[You are being unreasonable]. You're making a decision that he has no say over. Quite an important one actually.”

There were a number of users who disagreed but because they claimed dresses are impractical for young children, rather than due to any gender issue.

The question was met with a mixed response from other users with many agreeing that it wasn't right (photo posed by model)

One person commented: “[You are being unreasonable]. Dresses are impractical for babies anyway. He's tiny - put him in a sleepsuit so he's comfortable.”

While another agreed saying: “10 weeks? Just babygros. Why would you bother with any other clothes. Dresses are horribly impractical and uncomfortable. Until they are walking.”

There were a number of users who felt the whole conversation was a bit pointless.

One disgruntled person said: “You don't put babies in dresses, ffs! You're just trying to make a point and sounding a bit daft.”

And another agreed, adding: “He's 10 weeks old and you're stressing about putting him in a dress. You are a daft b****r, the daftest I've seen in a while.”

But some people didn't think it was a big deal and encouraged the mum to dress her child as she liked (photo posed by model)

But not everyone was so disparaging of the idea.

One person commented: “Yes, stick him in a dress if you want. Additional benefit is that it'll make nappy changing easier!”

Another user agreed: “Do what you like. I agree with you that it doesn't matter what babies wear in terms of gender norms, although for the sake of the baby I think the clothes should be comfortable.”

It's not the first time Mumsnet users have been up in arms over a divisive issue, this furious mum blasted her friend who compared having kids to looking after a dog.
