Here’s how you can always open a bottle of wine even if you don’t have a corkscrew
IF YOU'VE ever bought a bottle of wine, only to realise there isn't a corkscrew in sight, then these are the tips for you.
Whether you've lost your corkscrew or normally always drink screw tops - and are now unprepared - we've got it covered.
These are three tips you can try at home - although the third one might not go down well with your neighbours.
1. The key to success
Take a key - ideally a spare one, in case it gets damaged - and remove the foil on top of the cork.
Then push the key into the edge of the cork at a 45-degree angle and begin to gently push it round in circles - so the cork turns with it.
Keep going, like with a corkscrew, until the cork comes far enough out for you to grab it with your hand. Gently ease the cork out.
PROS: Can be done while out-and-about
CONS: Requires a pair of strong hands.
2. Wood you believe it
This method can be done with any wooden object - but we recommend a kitchen spoon or sturdy make-up brush.
Remove the foil from the top of the cork, then sit on a chair with the bottle of wine between your legs
Some people do the same method using a book or a tea towel instead of the shoe. The main point of the item is to stop you damaging the wall.
The force of banging the bottom against the wall should make the cork pop out.
PROS: Always works
CONS: Can take a long time, and is very loud.
