This expert’s advice on getting out of debt by using the universe and NOT paying bills has everyone baffled

Simone Milasas got herself out of £144,000 of debt but her tips have made some see red

A SELF-STYLED money expert who got herself out of £144,000 of debt has been sharing her secret – but people aren't giving her wacky advice much credit.

Simone Milasas, author of Getting Out Of Debt Joyfully, has been labelled “irresponsible” after claiming the way to deal with debt is to STOP paying bills.

She suggests creating a “10 per cent account” by putting away a tenth of everything your earn and claims that settling bills on time will make the “universe” give you more bills.

Writing for , she said: “People say, ‘I’ve got bills to pay! How can I put away 10 per cent of my income? I have to pay the bills first.’

“But, here’s the thing: if you pay your bills first, you will always have more bills. When you pay the bills first, the universe says, ‘Oh, okay. This person wishes to honour their bills. Let’s give them some more bills.’

“If you honour yourself by setting aside 10 per cent first, the universe says, ‘Oh, they are willing to honour themselves. They are willing to have more,’ and it responds to that. It gives you more.”

The 10 per cent account, Simone insists, is for your own use and is “about you being grateful to you.”

She added: “You are not setting it aside to pay bills with. You are not saving it for a rainy day. It is not for when you run out of money. It is not to pay a big bill that is upcoming.

“It is not to help a friend out. It is not for buying Christmas presents. It is for none of those things!

“You are putting it away as an honouring of you.”

With the average UK household now owing up to £14,000, this tip may do more harm than good.

Other advice Simone has detailed in the article includes carrying around “the amount of cash you think a rich person would carry” and she revealed that she carries over £770 in her purse.

She said you should not worry about how you feel if you lose it.

She wrote: “I had a young friend who carried about 1800USD (£1,200) on her at all times and lost her purse. It wasn’t very nice for her at the time, but after that, she was much more willing to be aware of her money!”

Finally she advises buying gold, silver and antique jewellery out of your 10 per cent account.

But her tips have sparked mockery and anger on social media.

One reader tweeted: “My partner sitting next to me screaming at the article: "WHY THE F***WOULDNT YOU PAY YOUR BILLS.”

Financier Erin Turner tweeted: “Apparently the universe will sort it if you to set aside 10% of your income rather than pay off your credit card accruing 18% interest.”

She added: “I have never seen such objectively terrible advice.”

Rob Stott tweeted: “To be really financially savvy, carry around 1000 silver spoons in your wallet.”

Vivienne Egan described the advice as as “f***ing irresponsible.”

Laurel Ede tweeted. “Wow I never realised my bills were coming from the universe. This changes everything!”

Mamamia added a disclaimer to the article, writing: “This is one person’s experience and should be treated as such.”

Simone’s methods are spelled out in more detail in her book, which costs £16.

If you feel like splashing out, maybe make sure you don’t use your 10 per cent account.
